Hanging scrolls, known as "kakejiku" in Japanese, Hanging scrolls, known as "kakejiku" in Japanese, originated in China were introduced to Japan during the Asuka period, around 1000 years ago. With the rise of the tea ceremony, hanging scrolls became popular among the general population, and a custom emerged to change the scrolls based on visitors, seasons, and the time of day.
There are various types of hanging scrolls, including Buddhist paintings, ink wash paintings, calligraphy by Zen monks and antique brushes with beautiful kanji characters from the Heian to Kamakura periods. In modern times, hanging scrolls are enjoyed not only in tokonoma (alcove) but also in living rooms, entrances, and other areas as a tool to appreciate the seasons in daily life.
Hanging scrolls serve as important tools to convey the host's thoughts to guests, pass on the feelings of ancestors to descendants, and express the "beauty" nurtured throughout Japan's long history.

In 1989, at the request of JR East Japan, Mr Sugim In 1989, at the request of JR East Japan, Mr Sugimoto renowned bartender created a commemorative cocktail for the 75th anniversary of the opening of Tokyo Station. The building of the station itself served as inspiration for the cocktail.
"The color of the cocktail is inspired by the red brick color of the station building. The 'T' in Tanqueray and the 'S' in Suze represent the initials of 'Tokyo Station.' The green of the lime is inspired by the pine tree in front of the station," explained Sugimoto.
The reason why the "Tokyo Station" cocktail is the most popular may be due to the balance of sweet and sour grenadine syrup, bitter herb liqueur, and refreshing gin. Or perhaps it's because people want to reminisce about their memories.

Why this pancake is related to Hiroshima? August 6 Why this pancake is related to Hiroshima? August 6, 1945, is a day that not only the people of Hiroshima, but people all over the world should never forget. It was the day when an atomic bomb was dropped on the center of Hiroshima, reducing the city to ashes in an instant. Those who miraculously survived had to struggle desperately to live through the day. After the war, to alleviate the food shortage, the American military distributed a lot of wheat flour. The people of Hiroshima began to make dishes based on a snack for children in the past, using wheat flour. They added seafood and vegetables to the dish, replaced the expensive green onions with cheap and voluminous cabbage, and cooked it on a griddle. They were mainly sold at food stalls, and some started to add yakisoba noodles to make it more filling. This became the prototype for Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
